WHAT IS HEXAGONAL BORON NITRIDE?
Hexagonal Boron Nitride, also known as just Boron Nitride or hBN and sometimes called "white graphite," is a chemical compound that is produced from boron compounds in a high temperature reaction. It is one of the most lubricious materials known. With a coefficient of friction as low as 0.15, and being "cleaner" to use than molybdenum disulfide and tungsten disulfide, it is a superb dry lubricant for many applications, particularly bullet and gun barrel coating.

HOW DOES HEXAGONAL BORON NITRIDE WORK?
Like Molybdenum Disulfide and Tungsten Disulfide, Hexagonal Boron Nitride is a "lamellar" or flake type solid. The flat, parallel hexagonal plates formed by the crystalline structure of hBN provide lubrication action due to their very shape, as the hBN micro flakes (see image below) slide one over the other similarly to how the cards in a brand new deck of playing cards being shuffled all over a table slide very easily one over another. The sub-micron particles help smooth over even the smallest crevices on a surface so the hBN fully impregnates the surface where it is applied and remains there, maintaining effective lubrication. In addition, the high load-carrying capacity of hBN means that it can withstand greater impact force than other lubricants.

WHERE IS HEXAGONAL BORON NITRIDE BETTER SUITED THAN TUNGSTEN DISULFIDE OR MOLYBDENUM DISULFIDE?
In bullet coating, of course. The U.S. Air Force Academy recently conducted experiments measuring the effectiveness of coating bullets with Molybdenum Disulfide, Tungsten Disulfide, Hexagonal Boron Nitride, and Lubalox (marketed by Winchester). On tests on 55 Nosler Ballistic Tip (55 NBT) bullets (jacketed lead with a plastic tip), the report states: "HBN reduced friction on the 55 NBT by 15%. The WS2 and MS2 resulted in 7% and 19% INCREASES (emphasis ours) in work done by friction respectively. Lubalox increased the friction by 4%." The report concludes that: "Given the time and expense of coating bullets, the reduction in friction is not cost effective for most applications," which may make sense for the armed forces, but we're certain that competitive shooters and sportsmen will probably disagree, which is why we offer our MICROLUBROL Hexagonal Boron Nitride Powder product.

FEATURES:
- Compatible with ALL metals, ALL plastics and elastomers, water, solvents, fuels, oils, paints, plastic resins.
- Superior thermal stability.
- Non-combustible.
- Resistant to oxidation at high temperatures.
- Extreme load carrying ability.
- Low coefficient of friction: 0.15.
- Chemically inert in lubrication applications.
- Lubricates extremely well under all conditions: heat, cold, pressure, vacuum and high loads.
- Compatible with other lubricants.
- 1 ounce (1.00 oz. / 28,3 gm.) in a CONVENIENT and DURABLE Double Wall Polypropylene Plastic Jar w/ Lined Cap for Secure and Moisture-Protected Closing (very small particle size hBN is hygroscopic, meaning it tends to absorb moisture and form clumps in long-term storage, so it is important to store it in a tightly sealed container like the one offered here).
- NOTE: The Hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) product offered here is NOT cosmetic grade and has not been tested for use in cosmetics or any other regulated use.

SPECIFICATIONS:
- Material: Hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN, boron nitride, "white graphite").
- Purity: 98%.
- Average Particle Size (APS): 0.5 micrometers (microns, µm, micrometers), approximately 12000 mesh equivalent ("mesh" is a measure of the fineness of a material separation screen, but due to the impossibility of weaving such fine wires or filaments to produce such a fine screen there are no actual screens with mesh finer than 600 available, so the number is for relative particle size comparison only).
- Color: White.
- Coefficient of Friction (COF): as low as 0.15.
